To be honest, dmoz is one of those sites, that is considered a holy grail for a reason. It's tough to get in, and takes a long time because you have to be hand selected.

If you've only just submitted, be prepared to wait another 3-6 months.

There is always the option of attempting to get a job there? they are always looking for people to go through and help out with all the checking of new websites being submitted.

Not that I'm saying it will neccessarily help you get your site in, but it could help everyone else ;)

Keeping up to date is fundamental, and it doesn't have to cost you anything.
In reality, it just takes time, to many time is money, so the question is, is your time worth more than paying someone else to do it for you?

Small business' no way, you time might be vital, but you'll be better off learning this yourself. SEO lastest and best ways are too important to left in the hands of someone else unless you have the money to pay them far too much money.
