Size of the image. The general rule is that the higher the resolution (the bigger the size), the better chances of coming out on top. This is due to the fact that many users want to see higher resolution pictures – mainly for aesthetic purposes. Just a word of caution, though – the bigger the image size, the more bandwidth and storage space it will take up. So try to achieve a balance between the quality and the storage space available to you.

Images are an awesome traffic source. Not to mention popular user-generated videos from sites like Youtube or Viddler – people searching for a certain video can possibly find you, too.
I’ve also heard of this thing called geo-tagging as well — where you tag place related pictures in order to create links to travel and tourist sites. Images are a great way to generate ranking and traffic.
Image is everything, even in this case. Pictures a thousand words, and draw thousands of visitors.
